Innovation in the Field of Light Facades: Trends and New Technologies
TECNALIA RESEARCH & INNOVATION will organize on June 20th, 21st and 22nd 2012 the Sixth International Congress on Architectural Envelopes. The event that is held every 3 years, will take place at the Auditorium Kursaal in San Sebastián-Donostia (Spain).
This year 2012 a significant change in the format of the Congress has taken place: it turns international and another day of conferences has been added to accommodate presentations of scientific topics related to the envelope.
The main topic of the Congress is related to the innovation in the field of light facades.
This theme was chosen as the main subject of the Congress because the world of architectural envelope is, perhaps, the part of the building where the major advances in building systems, materials, etc… have been made in the last years. This is due to the nature of presentation of the building that holds, in several cases, the light facade. Besides it is the only large item that can be seen easily in its entirety and the one that brings the aesthetics and the connection between the building and the outside.
Due to the importance of these factors, many of the advances that have taken place in recent years in the construction sector have been aimed at producing improvements and respond to the concerns of architects and owners related to the light facades. Lighter materials are being used which have better thermal, acoustic and structural performance. Formal solutions with increased complexity and new technologies (leds, solar, etc...) have been proposed. Thus, the facades have gone from being elements with a static behaviour to be able to respond and change its relationship with the environment based on changing their configuration.
All these advances, which have been accomplished in recent years, are based on the Research and Development carried out by hundreds of companies and Technological Centers in this field.
Therefore, the objective of the Congress is to talk about this process, its drawbacks, problems, benefits, etc... and what lies ahead in the world of light facades since what it is now in laboratories and drawing boards is what we will have in buildings within next 10 years.
